Frequency of Periodic Inspections
The frequency of periodic inspections for your home depends upon the type of installation, its use and the condition of the electrical installation at the time of the inspection. IEE Guidance Note 3 Inspection and Testing recommends 10 years as the maximum period between tests. IEE Guidance Note 3 also recommends that for domestic dwellings a periodic inspection is carried out on change of occupancy (when you are selling your property).
For rented accommodation the Electrical Safety Council (ESC) recommends that periodic inspection and testing is carried out at least every 5 years or on change of tenancy.
The Management of Houses in Multiple Occupation (England) Regulations 2006 requires that every fixed electrical installation is inspected and tested at intervals not exceeding 5 years by a person qualified to undertake such inspection and testing.
A certificate from the person conducting that inspection and test, specifying the results of the inspection and test must be obtained and supplied to the local housing authority within 7 days of receiving a request in writing for it from that authority.
The National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting (NICEIC) is one of only a few providers given Government approval to offer Competent Person Schemes to oversee electrical work within the electrical industry.
EEC Electrical is registered with the NICEIC and the British Standards Institution – our registration number for NICEIC is 032244 / 000 and the British Standards Institution is KM 99027.
The cost of your electrical test is deducted from the cost of any work that may required to be undertaken on your property based on the results of the test. We will provide you with a no obligation quotation to cover the cost of the work, should you accept the quotation, the cost of the test will be deducted from the quotation. This means your test is free of charge.
As part of your electrical inspection EEC’s electrician will check your electrical installation against the requirements of BS 7671 – Requirements for Electrical Installations (IEE Wiring Regulations).
