Samsung SDI All-in-one Battery Storage Solution

Samsung’s battery storage solution, the Samsung SDI, enables customers benefitting from a solar PV installation to store the excess energy generated by their system for use as and when it’s needed.

The main drawback of solar PV to date has been finding a way to utilise the energy generated by a system in order to maximise the financial benefits.

Traditionally, the solar energy generated could only be used at the point of the generation before it’s exported to the grid, as per the Feed-in Tariff but with the feed-in-tariff being reduced storing energy is the perfect solution. Battery storage devices, like the Samsung SDI, allows solar energy to be stored at the point of generation for use during times of peak consumption when there is no solar generation. Larger self-consumption of solar energy generation is the key to harnessing the full power and cost benefit of a solar PV array.

How it Works:

The concept is simple: while your solar panels are generating energy during daylight, the system will firstly power your usage, subsequently the extra generation will charge the SDI System. Once fully loaded, if there is any extra it will be fed back into the national grid. When the panels cease to generate electricity, the inverter will pull the free stored energy from the SDI System to power your usage. Only when the System is ’empty’, does the system take power from the grid.
